The film Man Masaan Hindi dubbed 720p is set in the Indian state of Gujarat, where people are forced to migrate for work. They fly kites because there is no other work to be had, and they suffer through long hours of meaningless labor.Mano (Sanjay Suri) lives with his wife and son in an apartment complex that is designed solely for outsiders like him because local villagers refuse to live there. The two share a kite-flying hobby that quickly turns into an acting exercise when the outside world enters their neighborhood - overworked construction workers, migrants, someone selling milk on the street. They must make room for these strangers by flying their own kites up high. One such stranger is Ratna Pathak Shah, who plays a woman searching for her long-lost Dogra lover. Mano is very quickly drawn into the woman's drama, in spite of his wife's protests. Then a young widow moves in with her in-laws and begins to flirt with Mano. Soon enough, they are joined by a state official who demands criminal background checks on everyone in the building. And Mano must defend his family against the charge of being outsiders.This includes a scene where he takes his son to visit "the others," which turns into an extended outburst about banning outsiders from local celebrations that has been compared to the one in Bimal Roy's 1955 classic Bandini .
The film has won four awards at the Filmfare Awards 2013 . It also won eight awards at the 2014 Online Film Festival, including the Audience Award. The film was released on 6 December 2013 in India . It was premiered at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival where it was honored with two Gold Cinema Eye Audience Awards, one Gold Camera Award and one Bronze Grand Jury Prize. It received its US premiere at the South by SouthWest festival where it was awarded Best International Narrative Feature, Jagran Josh receiving a Certificate of Merit in the International Competition. The film won the Screenplay Award at the 35th National Film Awards.Bollywood Hungama gave a rating of four and a half stars out of five. This movie directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari was also selected as one of 100 must watch movies in 2017 by Time for Movies for its great plot, dialogues and performance.
Manohar Joshi, a critic with the Times of India, praised the acting performances and said that "the dialogues amazingly keep you involved in the plot."
The film was also screened at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
The film opened on 6 December 2013 in 17 cinemas.
Man Masaan got released in China on the 25th February 2016 with the International English title of "Manwa" and The Hindi dubbed version was named as 'Man Wala Pyaar' which is a direct translation from the English title. The Chinese name for the movie is '美丽乌托邦: 放生'.The film also received its Indian release on 22 February 2016 under 'Man Wala Pyaar' and got released under its original English title 'Beautiful Utopia'.
