Tamanna is the real-life avatar of the film industry's most charming and iconic heroine. She is one of the top actresses in Tamil Cinema, known for her modernity and influential roles in terms of story-telling. Her performance with actor Arjun Sarja in Karuthamma won them accolades including the National Film Award for Best Actress for that year. She has been a part of more than one hundred films, with roles in commercially successful films, including Andal ki Jeet, Oram Poovi and Aayiram Kadithan.Tamanna was born on 15 January 1980 in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh into a Telugu family. She had her primary education from Holy Angels School in Hyderabad and later graduated from Sri Venkateswara College for Women, Chennai after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications. During her college days, she used to participate in state level beauty pageants and she was placed first among the contestants from the city at the National level. On one such occasion, during the year 1998, she came into contact with actress Kushboo, who was also present at her college to take part in an event. The two soon became friends and Tamanna nurtured her dreams of becoming an actress under Kushboo's guidance.Tamanna started her film career through the Telugu film "Mutyala Muggu" (2001) directed by Puri Jagannadh. She started off as a supporting actress and slowly began to get leading roles in films such as "Gaayam" (2003), "Happy Days "(2004), "Athadu", "Bujjigadu" (2006) and alongside superstar Dr. Ravishankar in "Aaram Thandha Vaaram" (2006). After "Aaram Thandha Vaaram", she made her acting debut in the Tamil film "Varanam" (2006), portraying the role of Nithya. She then portrayed the role of Muthu Lakshmi in the commercially successful Tamil film "Naked" (2007). Her performance in this film, which won her positive reviews, was followed by another drama titled "Urangatharutha Naa Varuvaya" (2007) and since then she has been appearing in films across languages. She made her debut in Kannada cinema with "Sakuni Arrecha Sakuni Dosa Katha". She then featured in the Telugu film "Madhumasam" along with Prakash Raj. Her performance in this film won her critical acclaim. Although the film tanked at the Box Office, Tamanna was considered to have made significant impression with it. She played a supporting role in the Hindi film "Awarapan" (2007) which also starred Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia Sen Gupta.Tamanna has been part of commercially successful films, including "SATYA" (also known as Andal ki Jeet), "Anjaan", Oram Poovi, Aayiram Kadithan and Kalavani Mappillai among others.
