Gosh, this looks so complex. On the one hand, kudos for keeping the game intact so there will not be a riot over fluctuations people do not like. However on the meseta pso2 flip side, since they are remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100% and synchronize character models completely. Giving old players a few free style items and unlocks would be sufficient to bribe everyone to accept the new system.

Synchronizing 100% personality models doesn't seem easy. The dilemma is that the older outfits and layer wear are modeled to fit the old pso2 body. In order to synchronize it, they'd have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 decades of makeup. That's not likely to happen. Well, I mean that I would be willing to drop a certain proportion of these makeup to keep things intact across versions. Provided that there's a continuous feed of cool new stuff to replace it, I don't mind. I constantly rotate out my old looks anyway. As long as the character versions translate 1:1 it will still feel like mine.

I would envision a massive complication to this involves a lot of the cosmetics from the Japanese side of things that were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The instance I can think of is the Dragon Hunter Frontier Z cooperation where I can imagine the clothes and weapons could unquestionably be given a visual upgrade together with everything else but I do not exactly know how the licensing or the way the lawful side of the cooperation works where I'd wish it was as simple as Sega going through and upgrading the assets but I don't know about just how much of Capcom is involved in that procedure.

The same applies to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I do not know just how much Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to have the ability to update assets there. If it was purely just Phantasy Star-related things (such as character outfits, cameos from other games, or other Sega-related properties) I could imagine that this probably would have been done, or would be done. But from the Global version we already don't have the presence of Cougar NX so I do not know if there are other complications seeing Sega's properties which may also contribute to not upgrading everything they could within reason.

I can envision that probably out there we'll still see someone wearing those older collaboration things even if they are not rigged up to the same standards as fresh cosmetics in a similar way and that there would have been outrage when it was cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta made unusable or obsolete. Collabs that have had their cosmetics removed nevertheless have their assets exist on the game so those will probably still be accessible for jp players.
